Coloured acetate of transparent acetate with coloured permanent marker pens
Scissors and sticky tape
A roll of film – EASY
I bought a coloured pack of acetate of a well known auction site after I became to scared of losing the little coloured gels of my Diana flash to take them on a night out. I was looking for an alternative and found colour acetate worked great……but what else could I do with it?
I’d read about people apply masks and filters to cameras to tint them with colour and tried this with a simple point and shoot and the results came out ok so I thought why not try it with four lenses instead of one?
First step is simply selecting your favourite colours from the pack and carefully cutting them so they cover just one of the four lenses. I cut mine a little bigger than carefully kept trimming after until they were just right – they covered the lens but didn’t over lap with the next colour to badly.
Second step place them in the order of your choice, double check the position then simply tape in place! SIMPLE!!
And that is it! I shot a whole roll of film pretty quickly to test it out and loved the results. They definitely work best when its quite light as it has to penetrate the acetate as well as the lens! Im pretty sure this would work on any camera, and I try a few but the supersampler worked best. Next up I’ll try the action sampler!
If you try adding colour to your photographs share the results with me, I would love to see them!

As photographers, we might choose the latter without a second thought, especially while viewing the festival photos that photographer Mart Vares captured with the New Petzval 85 Lens. Still, who doesn’t love the pleasant mechanical shutter sound of an old SLR that makes us commit to analog photography? While following the Nordic delegation at this years Waves Central Europe, we caught up with the Estonian band, Würffel, whose songs leave us feeling equally delighted.
