US Cityslicker Clownshoes: In South Florida? Turn on Your Radio!

Taking that trip to Miami, Everglades or the Florida Keys? Well dial in to Star 102.1 and hear what's up!

It was the early 1980’s when my father and grandfather started the radio station ‘Star 102.1’. Fast forward some years later; somehow I became involved. It would be difficult to get into everything right now so let us just talk about music.

I’ve seen the station go through a few changes over the past few decades: country, Spanish, genre specific, decade specific 60s, 70’s, 80’s 90’s, and today. Our ratings were doing good; but there is always room for improvement. So we switched gears and decided to contemporize our playlist.

Miami has a very mixed population; it’s a major international city. It’s that classic melting pot scenario; but what would that group of people listen to? We say everything: rap, country, folk, pop, rock, why not play it all. Everyday I find a new fan who is dedicated to our station because we are bound to play something they like.

Without getting too deep into it; a radio station has a responsibility to the community. So we like to support arts and education. We’re a great station to listen to if you are just coming into the area, tune into 102.1; most likely you’ll hear me describing some cool and interesting events happening in South Dade County and the Upper Keys.

We drive from Miami to Sarasota, FL every year for the last 11 years, for Christmas and NYE. Not las year as we have a new member in the family, but we will try to make it this year and I will make a note to listen to 102.5 FM! Your photo reportage of the station and those of your muse are great! I love specially the color pictures, however, the tower and antennae are great!

Would you rather lose your vision or your hearing? As photographers, we might choose the latter without a second thought, especially while viewing the festival photos that photographer Mart Vares captured with the New Petzval 85 Lens. Still, who doesn’t love the pleasant mechanical shutter sound of an old SLR that makes us commit to analog photography? While following the Nordic delegation at this years Waves Central Europe, we caught up with the Estonian band, Würffel, whose songs leave us feeling equally delighted.
