Singapore International Photography Festival 2012

1

The Singapore International Photography Festival is more than just an exhibition, it's a bridge that connects photographers with audiences. The topics of this year's fest include the last 30 years of Singapore's history as well as international human rights issues.

The Open Call Showcase this year comprises original, contemporary photographic works submitted by emerging and established photographers from all over the world! There were over 414 works shortlisted from the thousands of entries. Photographers from 26 Countries including Cambodia, Japan, Thailand, Mexico, and Peru will be represented. Also part of the showcase are professional photography workshops such as A Photo book Project, led by Kai-Olaf Hesse, and Contemporary Landscape Photography, led by Italian educator Andrea Botto.

The special showcase “Silvermine” presents a selection of 300 photographs that’ll transport audiences back to 1980s. That’s because the photos exhibited are actually from this decade! The vast archive of 35mm colored film was salvaged by Thomas Sauvin from a recycling plant in Beijing. Talk about hitting the jackpot!

Magnum – the renowned photographic cooperative – will display 143 works of three highly acclaimed photographers: Stuart Franklin, Mark Power, and Jacob Aue Sobol at “Outside In: A Magnum Photos Showcase”.

More activities, such as the guided walking tour photo weekend and pinhole camera workshops are open to the public to enjoy! And remember to share your Lomographs of the event with us!
