Astralrae is a textiles designer on a mission to revive the appreciation for lost cultures by working up an positively electrical storm with her fabrics. She is inspired by nature and is easily excited by prints, patterns and texture. Her La Sardina DIY, which she affectionately calls "Da Bai Tu", or Big White Rabbit, is a marriage of her above loves!
Serene graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Textiles at LASALLE College of the Arts and has been involved in numerous collaborations and exhibitions including the most recent edition of Transmission: Kaleidoscope under the mentorship of PHUNK. She is currently working as a full-time Design Consultant at Interface.
HER LA SARDINA DIY
Inspired by childhood memories of old snacks and sweets, Astralrae invokes nostalgia and playfulness with her multicolored “Da Bai Tu” which references the creamy milk candy originating from China and familiar with all who grew up in Singapore.
AN INTERVIEW WITH ASTRALRAE
Serene talks affectionately about her own Lomography cameras and the techniques and materials she used to adorn “Da Bai Tu” in a poignant celebration of childhood memories.
