Wanting to get back on the road or up in the air for an epic adventure? Well, you’re not alone—many of your fellow lomographers must be itching to go somewhere and take beautiful travel photos. We thought of fanning the flame to your wanderlust with some five movies about some amazing travels, most of them based on true stories. Are you ready?

Into the Wild (2007)

Shortly after his graduation, Christopher McCandless turns his back on conventional life by destroying his identification documents and credit cards, donates almost his entire savings to Oxfam, and gets on a cross-country drive to experience life out in the wilderness. He traverses North America and reaches the Alaskan wilderness. Based on a true story, Into the Wild is perhaps one of the most hard-core travel stories you will ever read about (the film itself is based on a book) or watch on film.

The Darjeeling Limited (2007)

A year after their father’s funeral, three brothers are reunited for a travel across India on board a luxury train called “The Darjeeling Limited.” This heartwarming story of brotherhood and adventure is a must-watch Wes Anderson classic, whether you’re burdened with wanderlust or not.

Lost in Translation (2003)

Ever known what it’s like to travel to a place where nearly everything seems unfamiliar and you hardly understand a thing? Sofia Coppola explores this idea with her 2003 film Lost in Translation, which tells the story of a fading movie star and a lonely young wife who meet in Tokyo and eventually find themselves sharing an unlikely bond.

Under the Tuscan Sun (2003)

Frances Mayes, a just-divorced writer from San Francisco, decides to take her friend’s advice to get away from her depressing situation and enjoy a vacation in Tuscany. It was supposed to be just a fancy Italian vacation to keep her mind off her heartbreak, but somewhere along the tour, she suddenly decides to buy a beautiful but crumbling villa, hoping it will spark a change in her life. Based on the real-life Frances Mayes’ memoir of the same title from 1996, this movie might even serve as inspiration if you’re thinking of moving to another country!

Seven Years in Tibet (1997)

Another movie based on a true story, Seven Years in Tibet chronicles the travels and experiences of Austrian mountaineer Heinrich Harrer in Tibet between 1944 and 1951 during World War II, the interim period, and Chinese invasion in 1950. There, he meets and befriends the Dalai Lama, then still a young boy, and becomes one of his tutors.
