Classic Albums in Lomographs 8: Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures

3

One of the most iconic album sleeves of all time. Unpopular on release, now recognized as the masterpiece it is. Another classic album.

Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures is an enigma. When released, the album did not sell well, over the past few decades, the album has reached a cult status and the cover alone is iconic.

In 2000, Q magazine ranked Unknown Pleasures number nineteen in the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever.

Unknown Pleasures means many things to many people, the lyrics can be lonely and desolate, full of rage, controversial, and at times beautiful.

Disorder: “Lights are flashing, cars are crashing, getting frequent now,
I’ve got the spirit, lose the feeling, let it out somehow.” This image captures both the lyrics, the urban ‘panic’ feeling of this song wonderfully.

Day of the Lords: This song feels like pain and suffering. The lyrics have been interpreted as an anti-war song, I feel they are almost impenetrable. Either way this image feels like it belongs.

Candidate: There are many interpretations of this song, most believe it to be about relationship difficulties and it certainly feels like it, it feels like isolation.

Insight: The end of the song features an early electronic effect, a pulsing, flashing sound. The light and the pose of the person feel right for the song.

New Dawn Fades: Possibly my favorite song ever. “Oh, I’ve walked on water, run through fire, Can’t seem to feel it anymore.”

She’s Lost Control: “Confusion in her eyes that says it all. She’s lost control…”

Credits: wil6ka

Shadowplay: “To the centre of the city where all roads meet, waiting for you…”

Credits: anarchy

Wilderness: How you interpret this song is up to you.

Credits: dhuffone

Interzone: This song is extraordinarily creepy if you listen to the words closely enough. The tone is matched by this horrible, wonderful multiple exposure.

Credits: daniwahlers

I Remember Nothing: A song about despair in a bad relationship. “We were strangers, for way too long…”

Every year, just a few weeks before summer, I dedicate a series of photos to the joy of living outdoors in this good season. One of the most common pleasures is taking one's socks and shoes off to feel the first warm rays of sun on our pale feet, which were prisoners inside shoes throughout the long winter season. So, it's time to take off your socks and shoes and relax barefoot! Where? Of course, on the walls surrounding the beautiful lake! Take a look!

The Pleasure of Shooting Live Music Shows with the Petzval Lens

There are small pleasures and big pleasures. A small one, like eating a chocolate after lunch, the first day of summer after a cold spring or finally meeting that girl you see every day on your morning commute can be more satisfying than anything else. As for me, shooting live music shows with the Petzval Lens is one of those small pleasures.
