There’s a little bit of Liverpool in downtown Richmond at Penny Lane Pub! Complete with courtyard area that’s mostly covered from the elements, great beer on tap, a selection of great food, pool tables, dart boards, and pub quizzes every Monday and Wednesday, you won’t want to go anywhere else for a drink! However… if you’re looking for a fru-fru drink with an umbrella, know that you’ve come to the wrong place. There is no blender in this pub!
All over the walls, and in the staircase, are mementos from the UK – an old-fashioned red phone booth in the courtyard, posters, street signs, and football (soccer) team pictures (many of which are signed) just to name a few things. You could probably make a good drinking game of searching the walls for “who can find more images of The Beatles.”
Penny Lane ranks up in my top 5 favorite bars in Richmond. It’s got a homey feel you can’t find anywhere else. I love walking through the door, sitting at the bar, and getting a nice cold pint of Guinness – they even draw a clover in it for you! or a Poor Man’s Black Velvet for a bit of a change. The only thing I wish this pub had was Magner’s cider – other than that it’s the perfect English Pub.
