Do you like going to the movies? Do you like going to the theatre? How much would you pay to see a movie, in a fancy, historical movie theatre? If your answer was more than $1.99, then you overshot the price by a long shot! The Byrd Theatre in Carytown has movies nearly every night of the week for the mere fee of $2.00 – You can’t beat that!!
The theatre itself was built in 1928 by William Byrd II, one of the founders of Richmond, and it has been in operation ever since. The entire building is running in practically it’s original form – even the seats – and let me tell you, the seats could use some help! Everyone I know says that when they go to The Byrd their legs or butt fall asleep – it happens to me too.
In 2007 The Byrd Theatre Foundation purchased the building and have been trying to raise money to fix up the theatre and keep it running in tip-top condition. One of their fundraisers happens every Saturday night – the mighty Wurlitzer is played by resident organ player Bob Gulledge. It’s truly a magical experience. They open the doors to the balcony (which is closed every other night of the week) and ask for donations as you go up the stairs to repair the seats in the theatre. I’d never been to The Byrd a Saturday, but this particular day I was! I felt like a little kid getting to sit in the cool seats. The theatre looks so grandiose from the balcony, and thanks to the nice ladies collecting money on the stairs I learned that the giant chandelier in the center of the house (that I was now closer to than ever before) measures 18 feet across, weighs 2.5 tons, and has over 5,000 Czechoslovakian crystals! Inside are 500 red, blue, green, and amber lights!
Leuven is a typical Belgian university city that is full of students, but feels a bit like a ghost city when all the students go home for the weekend. Nevertheless, this is the perfect time to pay a visit to this beautiful historic city just right next to Brussels. If you like culture, cobblestoned streets, creativity, and Belgian beers, this is your perfect day trip!
Antwerp. To hear this name is enough for fashionistas from around the world to make them weak with excitement. Home to a gazillion bloggers, fancy and less fancy boutiques, and of course, the only Belgian Lomography Headquarters, Antwerp's definitely worth the visit. But behold: you will find much more than you expect in this vibrant city!
If you’ve been following the Lomo LC-A-to-Z, then you’ve probably aimed below waist level, been yourself, crammed with everyone, done the duckface, enjoyed every instant, and fallen in love. Now’s the time for you to go wild!
In your daily photo practice, a slight difference in focal length can have a huge impact on your images. Does it adjust everything in the photo? Do I get that entire steeple on the image without having to go so far back and then shooting in the sun? How exactly does a fisheye lens work? Read on and find out the answer.
Perhaps you’ve already had chance to try light painting, multiple exposures and long exposures with your Lomo’Instant, but what can you experiment with next? Well, that’s exactly the thought I had which led to giving this Tipster a go. I wanted to shoot Lomo’Instant photos which felt a bit “messier” than what I’m usually used to and to use a technique which would open up new possibilities with the kinds of images I could create with my favorite instant camera. Well, here I go!

If you want to know the heart of a person, peek inside his/her wardrobe! And no, nobody famous said that; I only just made it up. But really, don't you think it's true? After all, the way we dress screams our personality; at least for most of us. And that is why, as soon as I land on a new city, one of the things I absolutely must do is find the local boutiques. Sure, I love the fancy chain boutiques as much as the next person, but there's just something else about a local clothing store. It's unique!

For the last year we've been working on the next version of Lomography. We based our work on the feedback you’ve given us over the years and we wanted to share it as early as possible with you and can’t wait to hear what you think. Just one warning first: it is still in development and things can break. All the photos, comments, likes, homes and everything else were transferred as of October 16th, 2014. So anything you do on next.lomography.com won't be reflected on www.lomography.com and vice versa. Once we are done with testing, everything you did here will be deleted again. So this is a big playground for you to explore.
