Vancouver, Downtown - East Side

by poitr

3 comments and 3 votesThe Vancouver downtown east side has quite a story and history. It is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Vancouver, B.C. At the turn of the 20th century, this was the heart of Vancouver (Hastings st. & Main St.) Everything was there, the main library, the banks, City hall, fantastic shopping and even the Wood wards Department Store. The great photographer Fred Herktzog focussed much of his time to this area.

Lomo "Music" Amigos: Tahiti 80

by ouroborosx

4 comments and 1 voteTahiti 80 got their start in the mid-90's somewhere between Rouen and Paris, drawing their name from a souvenir T-shirt slogan. After a few teeth-cutting EP's they released Puzzle in 1999, followed by Wallpaper for the Soul in 2002 and Fosbury in 2005. Their latest effort, Activity Center, shows them going back to the roots of classic pop songwriting with a rougher sound. Tahiti 80's new album will be out by the end of 2008.

Bulgaria in Communist times

3 commentsI visited Bulgaria while it was still communist. The first thing that kept my attention was the Cyrillic writings on traffic signs. It took some exercise and learning to manage my way into Bulgaria. These Cyrillic letters are very nice and you feel yourself like in an exotic and unknown country, when you have to read them first.

The Vilia and Me, a Deadstock Tragedy

by krabbpojken

11 comments and 8 votesI had longed for something like the Vilia for a long time, manual controls, wickedly sharp and contrasty lens and a design that reeks of the long gone regime we all know as the Soviet Union. However, after receiving the camera itself I realized everything isn´t how you picture it to be, and getting there takes effort. Learning to know the camera is half the fun, but this was something else, this was like trying to get to know a deaf Chinese. And I don´t even speak Chinese.
