Sometimes referred to as World Peace Day, this annual celebration is an initiative of the United Nations and has been observed since 1982.
It is dedicated to peace, specifically the absence of war, violence, and hostility among countries in combat, usually in the form of a 24-hour ceasefire.
Also, in support of this day, a United Kingdom-based organization called Peace One Day was established in 1999. Founded by British documentary filmmaker and actor Jeremy Gilley, Peace One Day strives to raise mass awareness and to aid the “United Nations”: in establishing global ceasefire.
This year, Peace One Day’s campaign revolves around Global Truce 2012 — an initiative that focuses not only on the observance of ceasefire between those at conflict, but also on the lessening of domestic violence and bullying.
So, go out and spread the love, you guys! Let’s make peace starting today and beyond!
