Bencini Koroll 24s - A beautiful camera from the 50s

A charming camera from 50s - the Bencini Koroll 24s, is fun, easy to use, and leads to fantastic results.

I fell in love with this beauty immediately. Made in Milano/Italy in 1953, this very simple camera lets you take fantastic pictures.

The Bencini Koroll 24s uses ordinary 120 film, but exposes 24 pictures on it. The format is 3×4.5 cm. Just one shutter speed ( 1/50 sec and B ) and two apertures ( f:9 and f:11 ).

The handling of this camera is very simple. I used a Kodak Portra 160, a Kodak E100VS and a Lucky SHD 100 B/W film yet and the results have been all very good at different daylight conditions. I kept the camera mostly at f:9 and used the f:11 just in very bright sunlight. I just didn’t like the Lucky B/W film pictures, because this film turned out really bad, which is not an issue of the camera though.

Like many cameras of the early 50s, the Bencini Koroll 24s is a viewfinder camera, which means, that the distance/focus needs to be guessed ( in feet ). I am not used to feet, but in the end, it has been easier than I thought. At apertures like f:9 or f:11, the depth of field is not very shallow. So it doesn’t matter, if you don’t guess super exactly.

A fantastic camera, which I really like and still use very often.
