Hobbiton: The Tour

Many Lord of the Rings fans are excited for the release of The Hobbit movie later this year. But if you're a true fan of the Lord of the Rings, you should know that the movie was shot in a farm in New Zealand. And guess what, that farm is now giving tours of the movie set!

The place was actually a family farm, the Alexander family farm. Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema discovered it in 1998 as they were doing an aerial search to shoot The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. Many of the things on the farm resembled the settings as described by author, J.R.R Tolkien.

Site construction began in 1999 for the trilogy, and was rebuilt in 2011 to shoot “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” and “The Hobbit: There and Back Again”. You can now see permanent hobbit holes, gardens, bridge, Mill and The Green Dragon.
