Supporting a Local Favorite Coffee Shop Chain

This is where I go when I want more than just a cup of java at work. Do you also frequent this Singaporean chain?

Sometimes, when I feel the need for a slightly better cup of coffee than those found at my office’s food center, I’ll pop by Killiney Kopitiam (or coffee shop in English) for a cup of coffee and a bite to eat.

The branch that I patronize rather frequently is located in Siglap, east side of Singapore. This is simply because it is within 10 minutes walking distance from my workplace.

While there are other places where you can also get a decent cup of coffee in the vicinity, this is a place which is wallet friendly and is a relatively comfortable place to have a quick discussion with colleagues over a cup of coffee or a meal.

I don’t know why, but somehow, I like the old-school feel when I visit this local coffee chain although it has been modernized.

For this particular Killiney Kopitiam branch, you do have to be there early to get a seat. Often, when my colleagues and I plan to have a lunch discussion, we leave at least 30 minutes earlier to get a seat and have a discussion.

What I also noticed about this place is the number of takeaway or (take outs) ordered. Though the prices are more expensive than that of the neighboring food centers, this Killiney Kopitiam outlet is enjoying brisk business. This is a good sign for I know that this place will continue to be in operation.

Naturally, the best time to enjoy a cup of coffee and some me-time is during off-peak hours. But that’s a luxury that not many working professionals can afford in a work week.

The World According to Herr Willie: The Amazon

It was the Amazon which I had longed for my whole life. And when it was finally a set deal that I will travel to Brazil with two of my best friends for the Copa do Mundo (World Cup), we really had to start our adventure in the Amazon. I had known about this magical place deep in the rainforest. There was a lodge run by local people of indigenous background, with wooden houses that float on the water and a limited number of visitors. It was eco-tourism as how it should be. To preserve and to celebrate one of the most impressive locations I have seen so far.

12 Months, 12 Projects: March Of Caffenol

My list of resolutions for 2015 consists of 12 projects, one for every month. March was for caffenol. You have probably heard of the amazing fact that you can develop black and white photos with coffee, sodium, and vitamin C. I had tried this before but with less than stellar results. Somehow, there's always something going wrong. Time to devote a few rolls to caffenol to finally get the hang of it.

A Salute to the Masters: Judo (A Tribute to Sabine Weiss)

This article is a tribute to the street and humanist photographer Sabine Weiss. Considered a living legend in street photography, she likes to photograph daily lives of people, trying to capture the emotions she recognizes around her. Weiss like to photograph people of all ages but she especially loves to take photos of children, masterfully immortalizing their spontaneous gestures and emotions. For this article, I was inspired by one of her rare sports photos of some children practicing judo. Do you want to know more about this great artist? Well, read on!
