Guideline to Donating

Those of you who are already familiar with donating your time and money for charitable causes are probably doing it because you are used to doing it since you were small or maybe because of something that's more personal. For those of you who are looking for a way to start donating, here's short guideline that you can use before you decide to donate.

What Do I Give?
If you have spare change, you can donate money to a number of charitable causes. Don’t have money? Donate your time and skills! Many charities over volunteering activities. Find a local one and improve your community, or travel across the sea and help others in the world. You’ve donated money and your time already? You can donate your blood!

Where Do I Give?
Are you an animal lover? Are you fond of things that originates from developing countries? Make sure you do your research on the charity that you will be donating to. You should feel as comfortable as possible with the charity’s cause(s). DO NOT give the first organization that asks for money. Give to where your heart feels most comfortable.

How Much Do I Give?
This all depends on your financial budget and willingness. Some people prefer to give small but often, and some prefer to give big but every now and then. You should be as comfortable as possible (financially) when giving to charities. Don’t worry, they will always appreciate any kind of donation that they get.

Be Careful of Scams
Here are a couple things to consider and watch out for to protect your goodwill and money from scams:

  • A charity’s policy should always include an agreement not to sell or give your information to third parties.
  • A good charity’s financial records should be transparent.
  • Watch out for similar sounding names. Many scams have used phone charity names that sounds similar to a number of legitimate organizations.
  • Respected charities will never push you to give on the spot. So walk away if you feel pressured.

To get you started on your charity hunt, here’s a project that you might be interested in. Since 2006 Lomography has partnered with Light For The World to help the people of Kikuyu regain their vision. The project has already helped over 1,000 people.

We want to help educate future eye doctors so that they can use the knowledge and tools to help hundreds of more people. By providing fellowships for ophthalmologists in training as well as training programs for eye care professionals, Light for the World is working towards a brighter future for the people of Kenya. The program not only educates and trains professional eye doctors; it helps train teachers to spot early onset eye problems in children and adults.

So, how does this work?

For every 5 EUR/USD you donate by buying a LomoKikuyu Book in our online shop, we will match your contribution with another 5 EUR/USD and send it to the International Committee of the Red Cross. to fight the famine in East Africa. So, your donation is working two fold!

How do I donate?

Head to the online shop and regardless of your order value, you will see a box in the shop that allows you to buy the LomoKikuyu Book for 5 EUR/USD, add it to your cart, we’ll take care of the rest!

I want to donate, but I’m not purchasing anything in the shop!
No worries, you can by only the book, that’s 5 EUR/USD and will be matched!

I am really interested, where can I find out more?

Probably each one of you has been annoyed with failed film. This is particularly annoying when you get the developed film back from the lab, but you get blanks because the film was not exposed. It's either the film transport didn't work, or you have not taken the lens cap off, etc. Read on and I'll show you an alternative to just throwing away the film: Simply use it as a color filter for your camera, with the La Sardina for example.
