Hyperrealistic Ballpoint Pen Portraits by Samuel Silva

3

We’ve all drawn our share of ballpoint pen doodles when we were children. But this Portuguese artist by the name of Samuel Silva took this hobby of drawing with pens into the next level by creating these unbelievable recreations!

At first glance, you’d really think that you are looking at a photograph. It’s only when you take a longer and closer look that you’ll realize that it isn’t.

According to his deviantArt profile, Silva started developing his style of ballpoint pen drawing just like everybody else – back in school, through simple sketches in the back of exercise books. Unlike everybody else though, he took this hobby and carried it on to his adult life. He may be proficient in other mediums like chalk, pencil, pastels, etc. but the ballpoint pen is the only one he is currently focused on mastering. He believes that it is not about what you use, but rather, how you use it.

“It takes me forever to do my works. The only thing that makes me keep going is my love for what I do and the ambition to go further and further.” – Samuel Silva
