Classic Albums in Lomographs 6: A-Ha's Hunting High and Low

3

This month I bring you the first tasty piece of analogue vinyl I ever purchased: A-Ha's Hunting High and Low. For that reason and that alone, it's a classic album!

At the end of last month's Classic Album, I decided not to give you an intro to this month’s. It ended so well on the lyric and I didn’t know how I was going to better it. I left my options open. But, last month’s was, in all honesty, a bit of a downer. This month I decided to chose something to bring the party back to life.

Hunting High and Low was released 1st June 1985 — a massive commercial success it sold more than 10 million copies across the world. In 1986 it was nominated for a Grammy and A-Ha became the first Norwegian group ever nominated.

Take On Me: If you need to ask why I chose this photo, you shouldn’t be reading this. Thanks natalieerachel for a perfect, perfect picture for this song!

Train Of Thought: “And his thoughts are full of strangers, corridors of naked lights…” Mmmm. Synth flute heaven!

Hunting High And Low: “She’s sound asleep and she’s sweeter now than the wildest dream could have seen her…” Just a lovely image!

The Blue Sky: “The lady at my table doesn’t want me here I just want to talk to her…I’m dying to be different in the coffee shop.” A little irony/coincidence?

Living A Boy’s Adventure Tale: I know in the photo it’s a girl, but this is my article! “I’m living a boy’s adventure tale, can’t escape, if I wanted to, living a boy’s adventure tale, I may be dreaming but I feel awake.”

The Sun Always Shines on T.V.: “Touch me and give all your love to me…” One of the most subtly romantic shots in the Community!

Credits: 5thdimension

And You Tell Me: “I’m trying hard to make you jealous…Trying harder to make you stay…” The feeling is in the eyes.

Credits: maximum_b

Love Is Reason: “I’d die at the thought of the loss of your heart.”

Credits: mrosy

I Dream Myself Alive: “I’m drawing pictures of the sea, right from the start I knew this girl would break my heart.” I like the way this lomograph feels more like a vague memory rather than a document of a moment.

Here I Stand And Face The Rain: “Here I stand and face the rain, I know that nothing’s gonna be the same again, I fear for what tomorrow brings…”

Lomography Fisheye No.2: Seven Years of Wonder

Exactly seven years ago, I bought this camera from Indonesia's local Lomography community. I remember having some savings in my bank account and just spending it all on this camera. At that time, I browsed the microsite for the Lomography Fisheye No.2 and immediately fell in love with it! Coincidentally, my friend who introduced me to Lomography just bought this same camera for his birthday. My life has changed ever since I had the Fisheye, my first lomographic camera.

Storytelling with Petzvals: Alex Timmermans and the Art of Collodion

Not long after Alex Timmermans purchased his first digital camera at the turn of the century, he quickly realized the trappings of digital photography couldn't fulfill his personal photographic desires. He then began searching for a more challenging process — one that wasn't so predictable. His journey eventually landed him back at the roots of analogue photography, specifically employing the wet plate collodion process using original Petzval lenses. This antique photographic process found in him a renewed inspiration and has since become his passion, which is evident in both his words and his images.
