Bicycles seem to be a very interesting part of Finland and very common objects you may find on your photos from this beautiful country. Several days after the arrival to Helsinki, Penny decided that she needed one as well, and of course, a nice one. A pink one.
The song that goes ‘I want to ride my bicycle’ just did not want to disappear from her mind. She woke up every morning singing this song while doing her breakfast, humming it while drinking a cup of tea and even while commuting to school by bus. It was on a nonstop loop in her head, so it is obvious that Penny took it as a sign showing her what she definitely must do with her life: She must buy herself a bicycle.
In Finland, it seems that everyone has a bike and uses it in every season and weather. Winter, frost or snow is of course no problem for them. Penny didn’t want to torture herself by riding a bicycle in freezing minus 20 degrees of Celsius and through piles of snow as the Finnish people do, but she felt a kind of an illogical need to have one.
It was fate. She entered the first bicycles store, which she had found, and it was undoubtedly the love on the first sight. Not very tall, but a strong, cute and old-school-looking pink bicycle was winking at her among other bikes “dressed” in different funky colours, various stickers, glitters, ribbons and even fur. But somewhere deep in her mind she knew that she needed and wanted to have a pink one and only a pink one, although she didn’t have any logical explanation to this special need.
So she brought home her new companion, named him Mr. Pink and placed him next to the other bicycles in the shed, which were faithfully waiting for their masters to come. It was on Saturday when she took Mr. Pink for the first ride, and it was on that day when she met the man of her life as well.
