Digbeth: Broken but Beautiful

3

I travel through Digbeth everyday on my way to work; it was the first centre of industry in Birmingham and became one of the most heavily industrialised areas in the town. But now it is all falling apart, most of the factories and warehouses are empty, so this makes a great place to take my Mini Diana on her first trip out!

It was ace to walk around in the sun finding cool, condemned buildings to shoot, some had plants growing out of them, some had broken windows I managed to squeeze my Mini through and get some pretty good shots. Inside I found massive smashed skylights, abandoned tools and gas canisters, a lot of interesting things I couldn’t find anywhere else or with any other camera.

It was also fun to experiment with the Diana Mini’s half frame function and get these fantastic spliced together shots, half landscape, half portait or half road, half closed up building, it’s a great feature! Although I don’t think even with the 72 shots to play with, I could capture all the hidden gems lurking around the dilapidated, but beautiful area of Digbeth.

The Mini is a great camera with which to shoot dilapidation! Good gallery - I think there must be plenty more opportunity in Digbeth too! Should nip up there myself one day... :)
