Last weekend at the Lomography Gallery Store Gramercy in NYC, we headed over to one of our favorite spots, the Hester Street Fair! We love these old fairs as they have a vintage flair that we can't get enough of. If you couldn't make it this past weekend, the fair goes on every Saturday so check it out!
Last Saturday, two Lomographers left from the NYC Gramercy Store on 23rd street and ventured down to the Hester Street Fair in the Lower East Side. New York’s oldest and largest pushcart market hasn’t moved since it was established in 1895. This weekly fair is now occupied with local food and goods vendor from gourmet mac’n’chesse to letter pressed postcards.
As we arrived, we were asked to partake in a corn eating contest sponsored by a farmer’s market stand. We opted out, but took this opportunity to document and enjoy the contest from the audience. I was shooting with an LC-A+, while my partner-in-crime tried out a bright yellow Fisheye camera. After taking in the many sights of this small fair, we headed out into the Lower East Side to explore.
As we walked and took in the graffiti, we ended up walking to the East Village and continuing to Washington Square Park to put our feet to rest. Thankfully, Washington Square Park is also one of the best places in New York to people watch. After discussing shutter speed, f-stops, and film speeds, we went our separate ways to finish our rolls. A one dollar ice coffee from Crumbs on my way back was the perfect end to a Saturday in New York City.
