UK Cityslicker Eleanor: Shooting Edgy Fashion in the Countryside

Northamptonshire is a beautiful county with huge expanses of unspoilt countryside, cute little villages in the middle of nowhere and stately homes laden with history. I planned to do a fashion shoot tour of the county showing you some of these spectacular and beautiful locations to shoot in but what with this dismal weather ruining all my fun, I didn’t get to do half as many as I would have liked.

I managed to shoot along the River Nene in various locations and the swollen riverbanks provided many in-water shots. I love shooting edgy, urban type styles in rural locations; it really adds another dimension. And yes, some country girls are pierced, tattooed and bang on trend when it comes to their style! Although we also look damn good in jodhpurs and wellies obviously…

If you ever find yourself exploring Northamptonshire and want to try some unusual locations I would recommend Santa Pod Raceway, Lyveden New Bield, Kirby Hall, Castle Ashby and Fotheringhay. Kirby Hall is partly derelict now but makes for really dramatic portraits and would be great for some timeless black and white work; could be used to create some really spooky shots. Santa Pod is always a fabulous day out and works well for getting candid shots of boys with their gorgeous cars. Castle Ashby is a village stuck in time with a big stately home and stunning gardens.

Fingers crossed for better weather so I can get out and explore more with my cameras!!

And my top tips for shooting edgy fashion in the countryside? Use angular poses for a high fashion feel, encourage the model to have attitude and play around with different structures (fencing, cattle grids, signs) to create an interesting point in your pictures. Have fun!

Pushing Boundaries: Multiple Exposing Film Soup

As you may have read in my previous article, I truly fell in love with Lomography when I combined my Fisheye camera with an old Canon AE-1 for magical photographic results. Last summer, I took so many pictures of flowers that it started to become almost boring for me. My waning interest and the coming winter meant that I had to figure out something else to do with my 35mm film.

The World According to Herr Willie: The Amazon

It was the Amazon which I had longed for my whole life. And when it was finally a set deal that I will travel to Brazil with two of my best friends for the Copa do Mundo (World Cup), we really had to start our adventure in the Amazon. I had known about this magical place deep in the rainforest. There was a lodge run by local people of indigenous background, with wooden houses that float on the water and a limited number of visitors. It was eco-tourism as how it should be. To preserve and to celebrate one of the most impressive locations I have seen so far.

A Hunt for Curios and Wonderful Patterns

Some photographers have an instinct for the unique. Whereas others aim to fashion the ordinary into a singular picture, these hunters are obsessed with what cannot be found elsewhere. They prize an exclusive scoop on architectural patterns, artisan quirks, and objects that stick out of an everyday scene. And when the photographers find them, they will twist and turn to get the most flattering angle. Only right for curiosities that beg to be shared.
