My Fisheye Baby 110 and Me: Simon

1

Meet fellow Lomographer Simon and read about how many jaws he managed to drop with his mini companion the Fisheye Baby 110.

Hey Simon!

1. What’s it like using the Fisheye Baby 110 camera?

It’s so much fun! It’s even smaller than I thought it was. The first thing I loved was exactly the fact that it is so small! Especially since I’m usually carrying a few cameras and always have to select when I don’t want (or can) carry a whole bag full of cameras. But from now on I think the Fisheye Baby 110 will always be with me.

Second thing I really loved is the viewfinder – you probably can’t miss anything anyway even without looking thru it thanks to the extreme wide angle but it’s still fun to see what possibilities lie ahead…

Oh and since the camera attracts so many curious looks it makes people really go WOW when they can get the real fishy view :)

When it comes to loading film it’s by far the easiest ever, no more trying to catch the film with an empty spool. And it’s superfast to reload!

The first day I took the baby out was a really beautiful sunny Sunday – a perfect day for shooting!

I really like that it makes the round circle photos and you can still shoot people close up without necessarily have them look too distorted. I really fell in love with fisheye all over again!

2. Any strange or funny moments while using the camera?

Only funny moments! My coworkers all freaked when they saw it. While I can remember 110 film from when I was a kid I guess for someone in their early 20s it can really be a bigger mystery than a cell phone!

It’s so funny how people keep looking for a memory card slot or batteries when they hold it in their hands just to be stunned when you explain that there’s film they never even heard of.

Another really funny moment was when I was shooting on a small bridge and had a professional photographer with his 2 huge DSLR cameras and a bag full of lenses next to me. I stood next to him while he kept checking his display and I quickly took a shot which only took like a second. Then I had to smile because he looked at me with a really funny face (and his jaw on the ground) I wish I had a picture of the both of us in that moment.

3. Among all your Fisheye Baby 110 snapshots, which one do you like best and why?

I really like the picture I took while we were driving in the car, it’s so easy to hold the camera to do self-portraits because it’s so amazingly small and you really can’t miss with the fisheye lens! The picture is a cool reminder of how much fun we had :)

4. If you could assign a song to your Fisheye 110 photos, what would it be?

It’s retro, it’s fun, it’s summer!

5. Can you share any tips for Fisheye Baby 110 users?

Well most important tip would definitely be: Take your camera everywhere you go!! Thanks to its size there’s really no need to leave it at home anymore even when you might have to take one or two big cameras already.

It’s also fun to snapshot other people, if you don’t hold it up to your face (which is not necessary with the fisheye) and its small size most people either don’t even recognize it at all or don’t feel threatened like they might be by a big camera. It’s just too cute I guess. So I say go try it and get all the ones that usually run from the lenses ;)

Oh and try to catch every fun moment you can!!!

The Fisheye Baby 110 Cameras are fully working miniature versions of the Fisheye No. 2 designed especially to fit 110 film. They capture the world in full circle and enable you to produce perfect Fisheye pictures. The Fisheye Baby 110s come with a bulb mode and are able to capture multiple exposures too. Lomography Fisheye No.2: Seven Years of Wonder

Exactly seven years ago, I bought this camera from Indonesia's local Lomography community. I remember having some savings in my bank account and just spending it all on this camera. At that time, I browsed the microsite for the Lomography Fisheye No.2 and immediately fell in love with it! Coincidentally, my friend who introduced me to Lomography just bought this same camera for his birthday. My life has changed ever since I had the Fisheye, my first lomographic camera.
