Through a Dog's Eyes...Capturing Your Pets Through Your Lens

1

We all look for new subjects and people to photograph - so why not our animals? Read on to learn how I tried to capture my dogs through the lens of my camera.

Cute moments are fleeting, whether your furry friend is rolling in the dry grass or simply taking a nap, sometimes by the time you get your camera ready, they’ve moved. My dogs are very hyper animals, and in the blink of an eye, that cute moment can be gone. So it’s always a challenge to try and get to a camera before they’ve moved onto something more interesting.

With my very first roll of film, I decided to try and photograph my two most willing subjects – my dogs. Below are some of the pictures I managed to get of the two of them.

All pets, not just dogs, are great photography subjects. Just be careful that if you’re photographing outside, don’t let your furry friend get away – that would ruin a perfect day of photo shooting!

So pop a roll of film into your camera and dedicate it to your pet, whether it be a dog, a ferret, or even a snake – and be patient! Follow your pet a while, so they get used to you being there. Soon they’ll go back to their normal routine, unless they really love the camera. I got the photo of my dog in the bamboo after waiting outside with them for almost an hour. But it was worth it to get the shot, it’s the only photo we have of him playing in the bamboo.

Don’t have any furry friends in your home? A simple trip to the park or even the zoo is a quick fix. This past weekend, I went to the zoo with my family, and I got some great shots, both of humans and of animals. I sent the film off today and should have it back within the week. I can’t wait to see the shots!

So when you’re out and about, don’t just look at humans that you can take portraits of, look at animals too. That strange man who walks his dog every evening. That alley cat that’s always too loud next to your apartment building. A pet shop window. All of these present great and unique photo opportunities, and they also give you a great amount of fun. I hope this article and the photos inspire you to get out there and take some pictures of your pets or other animals.

Fresh from the Lab: Silvia Precisa

Recently, I used my trusty Fuji Silvi. It may not be my all-time favorite camera, but I just wanted to use it because I kind of missed shooting with it. So I decided to look through my film stash to see what I could use with the Fuji Silvi. After much consideration, I ended up picking the old Agfa CT Precisa ISO 100 to get that classic blue tone. Silvia Precisa!
