Ever wanted to feel on top of the world? Well, I've found the best getaway with the most fantastic scenery - on top of the gigantic hill in Kaka'ako Waterfront Beach Park. Thanks to Lomography, this awesome community, and the film bug, I'm constantly on the lookout for new, unexpected hidden gems around Hawaii to write new location articles for!
And I think I’ve found one of my favorites – it’s unpretentious, simple, but breathtaking.
There is a gigantic hill in the middle of the lush park, Kaka’ako Waterfront. Well, there are multiple hills, but my love and I ventured all around the huge park in search for the best one with the best view.
Kaka’ako (I’ve written another locations article about the actual beach section of the park) is a sprawling beachfront park that encompasses a large area of the Honolulu coast. It is located around the famous Ward Center, and is more of a secluded area that doesn’t attract many tourists, but is visited mostly by locals.
But anyway, back to the main attraction. This hill, yes I know, sounds silly and not worth an article, but let the photos speak for themselves.
I took one of my most popular photos here at this hill.
From both sides of the hill, you are blessed with different types of views. From one side, you can see the endless vast ocean, with palm trees. From the other side, you can see the metropolis area of Honolulu and the Ward/Kaka’ako area. These are completely different faces of Hawaii, but both are true to its identity.
This hill is practically a mountain, it takes a bit to climb up. But from the absolute top, the views are simply stunning. It makes me feel extremely blessed to live in Hawaii.
