Urban Adventures at Marinha Grande

Marinha Grande cannot be considered as a big city can nor even as the best city, but it's my city, and I'm proud to be a Marinhense!

Marinha Grande is a small Portuguese town.

The history of Marinha Grande intimately connects with the history of the glass industry in Portugal. When two centuries behind, in an obscure village of sandy soils, shaded by a pine forest, anonymous hands lifted a furnace. Someone got the first taste of light. For the first time someone picks, blows, and forms. From these movements things began to take a reality that dominated the history of the town that, for over twenty five decades, had to play with greater or lesser extent, the life of each Marinhense, which was to be the life that never came out of the practices and discourses and dream locations. And until today, they are still blowing glass.

There are no documents that say the exact origin of the city, however, several documents suggest that in the eleventh and twelfth centuries was when the first settlers came.

Our friend zulupt also wrote a location's article on Marinha Grande.

In the city, there are several places with their own cultural association, associations promoting various cultural events ranging from theater to football through the music, gastronomic events, popular rays…we can almost say that something is always happening in Marinha Grande.

Unfortunately the local government does not always support these communities, so they survive through the will of their partners and friends.

But everything’s not coming up roses, the last time I took a lomowalk in the city, I found an empty city, deserted, with many abandoned buildings, old factories in ruins (where it is not advisable to go alone). I hope that one day the city regains the life it had some years ago.

Marinha Grande cannot be considered a big city, it cannot even be considered as the best city, but it’s my city and I’m proud to be a Marinhense.

If you pass by, come visit Marinha Grande, walk through our parks, visit our museums, and try to visit our various communities, because it will surely amuse you.

Hi! I was trying to translate your article, but I don't understand what do you mean with "popular rays" :)
    Can you help me? :)

The World According to Herr Willie: Gardens by the Bay, Singapore

Singapore, like Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong, is a likely stopover when you fly far. The city is a tiny urbanized hub but it's very favorable if you know some high-spirited locals. I was lucky to hook up with king kimbo (@hakimbo), who showed me around. He took my lame limbs to the Gardens by the Bay, an amazing place which was visually striking. I was hugging some artificial trees there when I found a baby—a very big baby.

Pushing Boundaries: So I Heard You Like Multiple Exposures

My name is Amber Valentine and I have a confession to make: I’m not really a photographer. I have a website full of photographs, a bookshelf full of cameras, film waiting to be developed, and a wall full of framed pictures I’ve taken. Even so, I don’t really consider myself a photographer per se. I think that Lomography is more about the experimentation and the fun of film than it is about the photography, and that experimentation is part of the reason I have embraced Lomography so.

Summer Hot Spots: Blaavand, Denmark (Part One)

When I was a child, I regularly went to Blaavand located at the Danish west coast with my brothers and my parents. However, I didn't anymore when I grew up. But in 2012, we hit the road again. It was my first visit there in about 20 years. I took the chance and packed as many cameras as possible into my luggage. In this article, I'm going to present to you the photos I took with my Nikon F-501 SLR.

The World According to Herr Willie: The Amazon

It was the Amazon which I had longed for my whole life. And when it was finally a set deal that I will travel to Brazil with two of my best friends for the Copa do Mundo (World Cup), we really had to start our adventure in the Amazon. I had known about this magical place deep in the rainforest. There was a lodge run by local people of indigenous background, with wooden houses that float on the water and a limited number of visitors. It was eco-tourism as how it should be. To preserve and to celebrate one of the most impressive locations I have seen so far.

The Magic Yet To Come: Part 1

Here’s a random and rather mysterious tale for you folks. Just the other day, I was at a local bar with a few friends. It was much like any other evening; we were sipping a couple of cocktails, recounting our adventures, falling over ourselves with laughter and half-drunkenly meditating on the meaning of life (a scientist once told me it’s 42 by the way). But then something truly strange happened. Read on to hear my story and please make a comment with your guess at the end!
