Go Skateboarding Day is today, June 21st. Why not check out some skateboarding hot spots in Los Angeles, the birthplace of skateboarding?
When you think of Southern California many images probably come to mind including sunny beaches, surfers and movie stars, but do you ever think about skateboarding? Skateboarding has been around in one form or another since the 1950’s and Venice, CA is considered its birthplace. While skateboarding has gone through waves of popularity, it has never been far from the heart of So Cal culture.
You’ll see skateboarders all over LA. There are kids riding their boards to school or the store. There are people riding for fun in under-used parking lots. There are even couriers in LA who use their skateboards to deliver parcels and packages amongst the high-rise buildings.
If you’re interested in seeing some amazing skateboarding you can head over anytime to a local skatepark. There are over 50 in Los Angeles county alone! There’s even a website dedicated to them: listing, reviewing and sharing photos of the best skateparks LA has to offer. If you time it right, you can even catch a skateboarding competition. The tricks some of these riders do have to be seen to be believed.
In honor of Go Skateboarding Day on June 21, maybe it’s time to pick up a board, some safety gear and head out to an LA skatepark. If that’s not your speed maybe just grab a Diana F+ or an LC-A+ and head out with a couple of rolls of film to catch all the action. Either way will make for a great LA adventure.
