What is so interesting and special about the Army Open House (AOH) 2012 of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF)? Aren't all military open house exhibitions showcase similar things? Well, this year's AOH promises a different experience from prior years. Read on after the jump to find out more!
This year’s AOH coincides with 45 years of National Service, hence, it was held at the Singapore F1 Pit Building and is aptly named AOH @ Our City. It was a grand celebration and a showcase of SAF’s 3rd Gen Army.
At the grand entrance, one is awed by the sights of mean fighting machines such as the Leopard Main Battle Tank, Primus Self-Propelled Gun against the majestic backdrop of the Singapore Flyer and the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resorts.
The whole AOH is subdivided into 7 zones: NS45 Showcase, Army Avenue & Pavilion Display, Dynamic Show Arena, Technology & Innovation Zone, Battle Rides Zone, Combat Zone, & Carnival Zone. Each zone attempts to showcase the different facet of the SAF and will appeal to visitors of all ages.
I find that the Dynamic Display Demonstration at the Dynamic Zone to be the most interesting part of AOH. Visitors are treated to a dynamic performance that showcase how the Army, Navy, and Air Force worked together to neutralize terrorists and external threats.
At the Army Avenue & Pavilion Display zone, one can get up close and personal with various types of military hardware.
Of course, kids are not forgotten and they too can have fun at the Carnival zone. There are mini obstacle course, inflatable bouncing castles and the Army photo booth. These activities would keep they occupied for an hour or two.
It’s always an enjoyable experience to visit one of SAF’s open house. So if you had missed this one, you can always look forward to the next Navy or Air Force Open House!
