Student-friendly prices, nice décor, friendly and attentive staff are just some of the things I noticed about this newly-opened Cartel Express food outlet in my neighborhood. It used to be that if you wanted to have a meal at Cafe Cartel in Singapore, you would have to head over to Siglap estate, where Cafe Cartel first started its operations. But now, the cafe has established several outlets across this tiny island. One of them, Cartel Express, which is located in my neighborhood, Toa Payoh.
It was a spontaneous decision to have lunch at the newly-established outlet for a lazy Sunday lunch. Surprisingly, the place was quiet even though it was lunch time.
Because it is an express outlet, you should not expect a full sit-down lunch or dinner experience. Instead, this express outlet is designed to let you get your meal quickly and without fuss.
What I noticed about this place were its student-friendly prices and no added service charges. It’s quite affordable and seems to be a good place for students studying in the vicinity to get a bite that is much better than a very popular global fast food chain, which has an outlet next door to this newly-established Cartel Express outlet.
Our meal was a simple affair. We were served within minutes of ordering our food, which was probably due to the fact that there weren’t that many customers in the restaurant yet. This could explain why the service crew was extra attentive.
So if you’re in my neighborhood and wanted something a notch above the usual burgers, try this express food joint for a change. Love it or hate it, this is something different.
