Hidden Beach Gems: Kahala Beach, Hawaii

Beyond the picturesque Waikiki Beach, my love and I prefer to find smaller beaches that remain tucked in the smaller towns, beyond the reach of tourists. Our favorite is Kahala Beach, on the east shore of Oahu, Hawaii.

As a Lomographer, searching for the best, small gems are always rewarding.

Hidden behind residential areas, Kahala Beach is visitable through small, public-access walkways that are literally lined up with people’s backyards. Kahala is one of the more predominantly upper-class neighborhoods in Hawaii, so parking your car on the side of the road isn’t too dangerous. And it’s pretty quiet, since most of the families are older (not your typical young, hip neighborhood, at least).

Just take a stroll down the access alleys, and there lies a quiet, quaint beach that is always beautiful, with pristine waters that go on for miles. The crystal clear blue waters look FANTASTIC in XPro film. ;)

It seems as if the untouched beach is just waiting for curious visitors to make themselves at home. Not to mention, curious Lomographers, too.

My love and I spent our Valentine’s date at this beach, and it was the best idea ever! Talk about romantic, he sure got some brownie points for his idea. :) If you’re looking to avoid the crowds at restaurants or in town, finding a secluded beach is definitely a great, memorable way to watch the sunset.

And there are lots of small trinkets lining the beach way, so of course I stopped to take some photos of them. What more could one ask for? Kahala Beach is definitely one of the best in Oahu.
