Knowing Madrid

1

Madrid, besides being the capital of Spain, is one of the most incredible places I've been to. I spent a week there and shoot every moment with my Diana Mini.

Madrid is located in the center of Spain and is a wonderful city. During the seven days that I spent there, the sun only came out during the last two days.

In the first day, I went to the Plaza Mayor. It’s a very famous square and is located right on the commercial center of Madrid. The square has a lot of bars, restaurants, and souvenir stores. It’s possible to see people from different parts of the world.

My first Lomo, an Oktomat, was bought on the online store. So because of that, I have never been in a Lomography Store. But Madrid has TWO stores. And how beautiful they are…I spent a lot of hours in there, wishing I can buy all. But I bought just one: A Diana Mini. Such a good choice! The camera and my boyfriend were the best company to enjoy Madrid.

A lot of museums, the wonderful Parque del Retiro, the good food in the Mercado de San Miguel, the fun of the Plaza Puerta del Sol…this is Madrid. If you’ve never been there, go! You will not regret it. And take your Lomo to shoot EVERY moment!

The Diana Mini is the ultra-compact, petite version of the Diana F+. This camera takes soft-focused, lo-fi images in 35mm and allows you to change between half-format and square shots with a flick of a switch. Get your own Diana Mini now!

The World According to Herr Willie: The Amazon

It was the Amazon which I had longed for my whole life. And when it was finally a set deal that I will travel to Brazil with two of my best friends for the Copa do Mundo (World Cup), we really had to start our adventure in the Amazon. I had known about this magical place deep in the rainforest. There was a lodge run by local people of indigenous background, with wooden houses that float on the water and a limited number of visitors. It was eco-tourism as how it should be. To preserve and to celebrate one of the most impressive locations I have seen so far.

From Russia with Love: Motorama Shoots with the La Sardina Splendour

I don't know many bands from Russia but one that I've been admiring for years is Motorama from Rostov-on-Don. With catchy tunes and adorable videos, they took my heart by storm and that of fans from all over the world. Because of their Russian origin, Motorama is of course familiar with Lomo products. Reason enough to let them become our latest LomoAmigos! Enjoy the interview with singer Vlad and check out their B&W photos, taken with a La Sardina Splendour.

Every year I get the winter blues. I start imagining the feel of the sunrays, ice cold beer after a long summer day, and the endless hours spent on the beach. 12 Months, 12 Projects: February - Nighttime Traffic

My list of resolutions for 2015 consists of 12 projects, one for every month. In February, I wanted to take one of those long exposure night shots of traffic. You know the type: nighttime cityscape, with bright red and white stripes where traffic passes. I love those shots, but I had never gotten around taking one.

    My First Indisposable Project

The idea behind this project was to shoot 24 moments in one week's time using a disposable camera. Incidentally, a friend from Seattle sent me two disposable cameras so I was finally able to participate. Disposable cameras aren't sold in Manila anymore. I timed my shoot during the week wherein I had to go out several times, also hoping for good weather.

Fresh from My Darkroom: The First Game of the New Rugby Season

Last Sunday, the local rugby team Rugby Como played the first match of the 2014-1025 season. Rugby is my favorite sport to photograph, and for some years I've been documenting almost every home match of this young team. This time I used a 1959 Zorki 5 camera with a vintage 1958 Industar-50 lens loaded with a timeless film, the Ilford HP5+ developed in a century-old developer, the mythical Rodinal. Take a look after the jump!

The Pleasure of Shooting Live Music Shows with the Petzval Lens

There are small pleasures and big pleasures. A small one, like eating a chocolate after lunch, the first day of summer after a cold spring or finally meeting that girl you see every day on your morning commute can be more satisfying than anything else. As for me, shooting live music shows with the Petzval Lens is one of those small pleasures.

Lomography Redscale XR 50-200 120: Perfect for Endless Multiple Exposures!

About two years ago or so, I purchased the Lomography Redscale XR 50-200. I saved just one roll of this film and waited for the right moment to shoot with it. In April this year, I just wasn't able to take it anymore! I loaded this film into my Lubitel 166+, which I realized I hadn't used for maybe about six months. One idea came to mind: taking crazy multiple exposures!
