Perpetual Pinholes: London and the Diana F+

After receiving my first Lomography camera, a Diana F+, and finding out one of the amazing features was the ability to use it as a pinhole camera, I couldn’t way to try it out. Pinholes allow you to get the sense of movement when the subject includes people or vehicles and give you dream like effect. Read on to find out more.

The Diana F+ was my first Lomography camera I received as a Christmas present back in 2010. I fell in love with this camera straight away; I love all the various features and things you can do with it. When I found out you could also use the camera as a pinhole, with the simple easy of taking the lens off, I was dying to try in out. Luckily, the Lomography store in Soho London was holding a workshop, so we jumped on board.

We started from the Lomography store walking along Carnaby Street and down to Regent Street.

This allowed us to get some shoots incorporating movement into them of both the traffic and people, giving you a sense of how everything keeps moving, as the lens stays open whilst taking the picture.

We then heading down towards the National Gallery, Trafalgar Square and St Martin-in-the-Fields. I love the effects the Diana Pinhole had with the black and white film here. The images produced have a real dream like effect and old very old fashioned.

The one thing I really learnt after getting the photos developed, despite being told in the workshop is that you really have to keep the camera as still as you possibly can as you are exposing the shot.

So that’s my first experience with pinhole photography. The Diana F+ is a great camera to test this out, as if you have one already, it is not costing you any more to try it out and it is so easy, just twist off the lens and set it to “P”. If you have never tried it before you really should, especially as it is World Pinhole Day this month!

The Diana F+ is a new twist on the ‘60s classic cult camera. Famous for its dreamy and soft-focused images, the Diana F+ is now packed with extra features such as panorama and pinhole capabilities. Available in our Online Shop.

Unfortunately, it happens sometimes that your resulting pictures are not what you expected - the image doesn't look that good, the colors are bland, and the subject is banal.
