Bangkok’s Chatuchak Weekend Market is the place to go to for great deals. Shoppers are spoilt for choice when it comes to the variety of things to buy. But it is also a great place for some street photography!
Chatuchak Weekend Market almost needs no introduction. Every weekend, you’ll find half of Bangkok (ok, I exaggerate) and hordes of tourists visiting Bangkok there, looking for a bargain or two. As I’ve been to the market before during my previous trip to Bangkok, I knew what to expect.
Because of the high human traffic and the popularity of the market, the stall-holders are used to seeing tourists taking photos. As a lomographer, this means a great opportunity for some candid photos.
However, for this particular trip to the market, my wife and I knew what we wanted to get and where we wanted to head to within the market. So we didn’t venture into the deep dark and hot alleys of the market for that bargain.
But here’s a tip. If you really have to venture deep, try following a vendor carrying her goods. She’ll help you clear the path ahead.
Yet, there’s still plenty to see, like this walking advertising campaign for a breath mint. I saw this group walking towards me and I took a shot.
Then this pretty mint distributor saw me and gave me a sample mint along with a super sweet smile!
Chatuchak Weekend Market is full of color and life, making it a great place to take some street and candid photos.
Yet, by the same token, do be careful as this place also has its fair share of pickpockets.
