Water into Water or Blessing the Lake!

The Via Crucis on Good Friday in Como is characterized by a particular moment: the Blessing of the Lake by the Bishop. Read about this event after the jump!

With my old and reliable Fed 2 camera and its collapsible lens Fed 50/3,5 8 (Industar 10), I followed the procession of the Good Friday in Como, in the North of Italy, a town of 90,000 inhabitants near the border with Switzerland. I used an HP5 film because black and white photography is timeless for these events!

The procession begins at the Sanctuary of the Holy Cross, located near the north side of the walls of the medieval centre of the city. The Cross leaves the Sanctuary accompanied by the Bishop and the priests, with a musical background of a music band which perform a funeral march. At the same time, in the avenue in front of the sanctuary, there is the traditional Easter Fair with the characteristic market (here in a photo taken last year).

While last year I concentrated my shots mainly on the market, this year my report was focused on the procession, which passed across the pedestrian zone of the centre of the city directed to Piazza Cavour, the main square of my city, in front of the lake!

The Bishop accompanied the procession, in a simple and affable way, with a blessing for all those present at the event.

After passing through Piazza Duomo, the procession was directed toward the lake.

Here, among a crowd of people and photographers, the Cross was placed in front of the Lake of Como for the blessing of its waters.

The procession ended where it has been started, at the Sanctuary of Viale Varese.

There is nothing better than a photo shot at the perfect moment. Henri Cartier-Bresson's principle on "The Decisive Moment" is a principle that we should still follow to this day. A perfectly-timed photo creates impact, whether it's one of a friend jumping into the pool or a couple emerging from the ceremony on their wedding day. For this rumble, we want to see that breathtaking moment, shot at the perfect time. And you showed us what it's like to be on time.

Happenings on Film: Trofeo Villa D'Este 2014

This autumn, Como hosted a very important sporting event: a 6,000-meter rowing race on the lake. The race was first held in 1893. After 123 years, the Trofeo Villa D'Este has been revived. I documented this event with my trusty Praktica camera and two lenses, a 50mm and 135mm.

March Frenzy: Tottenham Takes Over the V&A

I went to the Victoria & Albert Museum's Friday Late, an event that takes place every last Friday evening of the month. For March 2014, the London borough of Tottenham was invited to curate an evening of creativity. There were a number of events that went on ranging from music and art to fashion and film. Accompanied by my LC-A+ and Fisheye No. 2, here are my highlights of that evening in photographs.

A Day with the LC-A: From the Bus, Como (My Tribute to Robert Frank)

In 1958 the great photographer Robert Frank took a series of images of New York's street life with a Leica camera from a bus window, as in these series of photos that I took in my city Como with my trusty Lomo LC-A loaded with a Kodak Tri-X film. This is a tribute to a great camera and to a great photographer! Read more after the jump!

A Salute to the Masters: Buraco (A Tribute to Alfred Eisenstaedt)

Alfred Eisenstaedt was one of Life Magazine's greatest photographers, known for his ability to immortalize the storytelling moment of many public events in history. To write this tribute to him, I chose a subject that he photographed in different places and times: card players in public places. The photos in this article were taken at the Patronal Feast of my city Como, during a series of buraco's lessons held by a local card players club.
