The Atomium in Brussels

A few weeks ago I went to Brussels, Belgium for a weekend. Besides Manneken Piss, which was really disappointing because it´s around 30 cm high, another Must see is the Atomium, located close to the Heysel Park.

I was always fascinated from this monument which was built for the World Expo 1958, the Brussel´s World Fair.

The Atomium is 102 metres high and was originally designed by André Waterkeyn. All 9 Steel Spheres are connected, so that the whole form has the shape of an iron crystal. If you stand in front of it, it´s really huge and since the weather was quite sunny I decided to shoot with the Lomography Redscale.

In 2008, the Atomium was celebrating his 50th birthday. For me as an architecture fan, it is really amazing how they build up this thing in 1958 and I honestly think that people at this time must be really amazed from it.

If you ever got the chance to go to Brussels, I really suggest you to go there. It´s also a great place to relax, since the Heysel Park is very close.

Yeah! Redscale was a good idea. The Atomium is indeed a nice piece of architecture! I've been there last year, also visited the Mini Europe park with monuments from al over the world in smaller scale, hours and hours of shooting for those who like that ;)

I'm sorry our national pride dissapointed you, but the fact that its a little boy peeing in public must've been somekind of warning, no ? I prefer 'Janneke Pis' a peeing girl, also in Brussels.
