Located at Clear Water Bay, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is a place waiting for you to explore and discover its beauty. Don’t just stay inside the academic building, go outside to take a look at the beautiful nature.
Comparing to other universities in Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is a rather new university. It was established in 1991 but it has already achieved some top ranks in various university rankings. Its 60-hectare campus is located in Sai Kung District, situated on the Clear Water Bay peninsula.
When you arrive at HKUST, the first thing you see will be the eye-catching red sundial at the main entrance. And this scene is definitely the most representative for this university.
The crescent-shaped building is the entrance to the academic building where most of the lecture theaters, classrooms, offices, and laboratories are.
There are many architectural details of the academic building that deserve close appreciation.
One characteristic of the campus of HKUST is that it seems almost all the buildings are connected together. You can reach one through another, such as the library building and also the sports hall, which are all connected to the academic buildings. And even the student housing is very close to the academic building. One more interesting thing about this university is that because it is situated on a slope, you might get confused about which floor you are at. Walking across different sections and different buildings make you feel like walking in a maze and it is rather easy to get lost if you are a newcomer.
If you walk through the main campus to the other end you will have a spectacular view of the Port Shelter.
Walking inside the main campus gives you the impression that it focuses on the functional aspect and even feel a little bit intense here.
However, when you walk outside of the building and a little away from it, you will have a completely different view. You can then sense the beauty of nature and can relax yourself there.
You will then realize that it is actually a very interesting place and there are so many things waiting for you to explore and discover.
Next time when you have the chance to come to HKUST, don’t forget to spend a little time getting out of the academic building and walk around the campus.
