Your Choice for Portraits: Cameras

39

More often than not, we tend to lean towards a certain camera for a certain shooting purpose or style. Since it's all about portraits this month, why don't you share with us which one/s do you prefer when taking portraits?

My trusty Nikon FE2, definitely is my top choice when it comes to snapping portrait photos. Since it gives me full control of everything—aperture, shutter speed, focusing—I feel free to explore all sorts of styles and techniques possible. Ken, as I had decided to call my analogue partner, has been a constant companion that I take everywhere and use to take all sorts of photos. However, I believe that portraits, whether of my friends, strangers, or even my pet cat, are what he takes best.

Of course, I’ve taken several satisfactory portraits with my other analogue cameras, but when it comes to portraiture, I tend to lean towards the Nikon FE2.

What about you? Which is/are your choice/s when taking portraits? Why don’t you share it with us with a comment below, and maybe even tag your friends if you’re curious about their own picks!

I believe that it's more a matter of lenses than a matter of camera, so anything that can support a good lens like my beloved Tair -11 2,8/133mm or the good Olympus Zuiko Auto-T 3,5/135mm. In the lomo field cameras I think that nothing is better than the Diana+ and his 75mm standard lens.

I agree with superlighter. My choice of lens is Carl Zeiss Jena P. 2.8 / 135 mm "bokeh monster" mounted on a Praktica B series camera.

My favorite portrait combo would be my Minolta SR505 with Tamron 90mm F/2.4... perfect! Use ortho film for perfect complexions!

Doing portaits is more about choosing what lens combo to use with your vintage SLR than the actual camera. For me a choose my Canon A-1 with either 50mm f1.4 or 70-200 f4. Been looking for an 85mm f1.8 but i havent managed to find one cheap yet.

Would love to try a medium format vintage Mamiya for portaits sometime.

Agreed, it's all in the lens !!! I mostly shoot portraits with most of my cameras, but if I'd have to choose a few it'd be: Hasselblad 500C/M, Pentax 6x7, Nikon FM and in the lomo range: Diana and Lubitel
