Super Selfies: Should I Take More, or I Should I Stop?

8

Who should we love best? Ourselves, of course! We should love ourselves for what we do, for what we are, for what the mirror shows, and us by us…in the picture I mean! Put fears aside and be…narcissists!

I have two main reasons for shooting self-portraits. The first it’s that when I’m shooting all by myself I need new ideas or just to pretend that I’m photographing someone. Or just because I have nothing cool to shoot. The second main reason is very simple…nobody lomo-lizes me! Although I have friends and a girlfriend addicted to LOMO, they don’t stop to shoot me, of course. Neither do I. So that’s why!

One of my first self-portraits was after I got some 5 Agfa films for free and my Diana F+ was still new at my place. Hurray, 5 films, new camera, let´s shoot everything that moves! I was at the beach in summer vacations with my lady. I had to shoot something more!

When we’re travelling we have to take some photos (digital or analogue) in front of that great monument. Another one was taken in my short vacations in London in front of Big Ben. When I saw the result I started thinking that I shouldn’t be lomo-lized by myself. Don’t like the results so far!

But my self-portraits also have a companion, my girl Joana (lomollita) and her beauty! After a big walk in an oriental park in Portugal we had to stop and take a good kiss picture! I like this one. Maybe what I need is a good companion, or just to keep my face away from the camera.

Do you remember when I said that I would take some self-portraits because I was alone? Well, got a few like that. I am always experimenting with something new such as my first LOMO CN 100 film, or Diana 35mm Back, or even pinhole. We had fun!

Last year, I got some 2 nice selfies. Actually one is my present avatar and the other is my old avatar. The first was taken at my place because I was bored and wanted to play with my Diana flash. The other one was at the beach during a summer music festival I emerged from water not too fast and took that photo.

If we won´t lomolize ourselves, who will? Arms stretched, cameras pointing, heads up… SHOOT!

I also love taking self-portraits for the same reasons. If I want to be good (not even great) at lomography I think I should be able to take decent self-portraits. It helped me learn about how far I should extend my arm to take a sharp photo of myself without having to actually measure the distance. That helped me guesstimate my camera's distance to my other portraiture subjects. Plus, I document myself through time and my lomography is my visual diary - and that's not being narcissistic, is it?

@lakandula: Man, that´s not narcissistic. It´s a great point of view to use it in order to train our lomo skills. And after all, it´s a lot of fun taking selfies, isn´t it?? :)) And I´ll keep trying! Lomo on my friend!

@radiactive: Nobody understand us. Hahaha! :)) Still, the camera (should) love us!
@adi_totp: Oh yeahh, you´re giving me a new motivation =D have a great weekend!
