This month, we are turning the spotlight onto some of Singapore's most popular community members. Let's get to know them better, shall we? Meet Lawrence a.k.a. lawypop!
Name: Lawrence Chiam
Occupation: Graphic Designer
LomoAge: 3.5 years
Hello! Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m a graphic designer who is still stuck in the past with his plastic cameras after his first 4-lens Actionsampler in late 2008.
How many Lomography cameras do you have in your collection?
About 20 Lomography cameras!
We’re sure it’s hard to pick one, but which Lomography camera is your all time favourite? And which camera is on your wishlist right now?
It has to be the panoramic Horizon Perfekt. Unfortunately she is under the weather lately, so I hope I could get another one soon, that’s top of my wishlist!
Please share with us your top 3 favourite shots ever, and tell us a bit about each photo.
These silhouettes layered with the city lights got some attention from the community so I decided to share the techniques online. This is one of my favourite shots from the series.
I followed my mum to the market and documented her morning with my first Lomo LC-A. My mum is one of my favourite subjects. You’ll see her once in a while in my photo albums.
I really like panoramic pictures and this has to be my favourite, I saw these skaterboarders taking a break and instinctively shot them with my Horizon Perfekt. Their expressions are priceless. Haha!
What do you like about the Lomography community?
It’s a place where I get my inspirations and get to know friends near my home and around the world. There are a lot of talents in there and their pictures actually inspired me to shoot “seriously” with themes in my mind like covering sport events and doing fashion shoots with Lomography cameras.
As a Lomography Singapore Community Star, do you want to share any advice or tips for Lomographers out there?
Don’t be discouraged if you feel that your pictures are not as good as the ones in the popular section, use them as examples for your next shot, ask the Lomographer (I still do! And mostly are really friendly) how they achieve this shot and try them out yourself. Experiment, be adventurous and have fun, you will be surprised by some of your results!
