The Academy Awards is a prestigious event held by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) to give props to excellent work done by various professionals in the film industry. During the event, stars also give short performances to entertain the audience. In line with the 84th Academy Awards that just took place, let's take a look at some photos from the past.
The very first Academy Awards ceremony was held in 1929. Back then, the event wasn’t televised yet and there were only close to 300 people on the audience as opposed to the present wherein the OSCARS is televised in over a hundred countries. It has been a big part of the ceremony to see stars of the silver screen dance, sing, and provide entertainment to everyone watching.
In 1958, the 30th Academy Awards ceremony took place, but it was only the 5th time the ceremony was shown on television. For that grand ceremony, a big extravaganza was prepared and various stars from the big screen rehearsed to get ready for the big bang. Shown below are some of the rare photos taken by Leonard McCombe, a photographer for LIFE magazine.

We can see all the hard work and dedication that these artists put in to come up with quality entertainment for the masses. They definitely deserve recognition for the contributions they’ve made to the film industry. Below are some photos of celebrities attending the Academy Awards from different years:
