Newcomer of the Week: Sommer

7

Curiosity lead her to Lomography and eventually to the Community she truly adores!

From her first Lomographic Camera, to making friends with people whose passion she shares, and to more years of analogue love, let us welcome another Newcomer this week as she tells us her story of her analogue beginnings.

Name: María Sánchez
Lomography username: sommer
Location: Berlin (but I’m from Salamanca, Spain)
Current film cameras: 5 (Diana F+, Halina Paulette, SuperSampler, Holga 135 BCTL, Lubitel 166B).

How did you find out about the Community and who/what convinced you to join?

I discovered the Lomography store here in Berlin in September 2011 and was curious about the cameras and what they are. I’ve always loved photography and I wanted a good digital camera, but then I bought my first Lomo, the Diana F+ and actually forgot the idea of buying it. While reading the Lomography website, I convinced myself I wanted one of those cameras and try all the fantastic tips that the people share in the Magazine.

Is there anyone in the Lomographic Society you look up to?

First of all I wanna say that I watch almost every day all the photos that my Lomo friends upload. When I began in the Community, soleado helped me a lot by giving me advice and trying to explain all the things I asked him. But I should say, all the people in the Community helped me a lot, because at the beginning I had no idea about analog photography and I asked for advice from the Community and they were always super nice with the answers they gave to me.

As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?

I always apply number ten “Don’t worry about the rules!" since well, I always try to do my best not following the rules!

In this digital age, why still film?

Because of the surprise you get when you go to pick up your photos. Sometimes it’s disappointing but sometimes the results can be just great! The more I shoot, the more I like to shoot!

Share your current favorite Lomograph (could be yours or a friend’s) and explain why it is your favorite.

I couldn’t choose one of them since I really like the photos and the effort that everyone makes to get the best Lomographs. As I said, I try to watch new albums of my friends everyday and if I have extra time I watch other people’s photos. I try to read the Lomo Magazine in Spanish and English every day and… What I can say? I’m in love with this community! I couldn’t say a list of my favoirites!
