Portraits at the Museet

The Moderna Museet in Malmö, Sweden is currently showing more than 40 photographic portraits dating back from the 1950s to the 1990s. Don’t miss out on this great exhibition! Read more to find out the gallery schedules.

There’s shots by Warhol, Sherman and Mapplethorpe on show at the Ladies and Gentlemen exhibition of portraits curated by Magnus af Petersens at Malmö’s Moderna Museet.

The exhibition revolves around concepts of identity, sexuality, and performativity in a captivating mix of colour and black and white photographs.

Amongst the B&W shots, the works of Samuel Fosso and Seydou Keïta stand out. Based in Bangui, in the Central African Republic, Fosso, like Sherman, is best known for a series of self-portraits in which he assumes different roles.

All the photographs on display belong to the Moderna’s permanent collection; a collection of photography among the foremost in Europe. So if you don’t manage to make it to the exhibition before April 22nd, the Museum is always worth a visit.
