Love at First Lomo: How I Fell in Love with My Fisheye No.2

I had been into photography for a while, but when I saw the Fisheye No.2 it really was love at first sight. Ever since then, this camera has taught me to be spontaneous, to take chances, and to not think, just shoot!

My lomographic destiny was determined on April 6th, 2008. That day my art class went on a field trip to the Vancouver Art Gallery to see an exhibition. I think it was a modern exhibition with sort of comic-style art, but I don’t remember all that much about it. Right before we went to see it, I laid eyes on a little plastic camera that I instantly fell in love with.

At the museum shop they were selling the Lomography Fisheye No.2. I had never seen such an excentric, yet beautiful camera and it was all I could think about while stumbling along behind the rest of my class in a rather dazed manner.

Some of the first pictures I took with my Fisheye

The thing was, I didn’t have enough cash to buy it right there, but I knew I just HAD to get it! So when our guided tour was over, we had some time to explore the gallery on our own. I told a friend that I had to go to a bank and withdraw some money in order to buy the Fisheye and that she should cover for me and tell the teacher that I had gone to the bathroom in case anyone was wondering where I had gone – we were not allowed to leave the Gallery, of course!

So there I was, running around in Vancouver at top speed, getting the money and hurrying back as fast as I could!!

Fortunately the teacher hadn’t noticed my absence. I bought the Fisheye and ever since then, it’s been my reliable and dearly loved companion. The Fisheye and I have been through a lot together – its flash doesn’t really work anymore, the rubber strap came off and it sure shows some wear. But I can honestly say that I love it just as much as I did when I first saw it! In the meantime, it has gotten some company by a Fisheye No.2 Ripcurl edition – not a replacement to be sure, just a new friend whose flash works. They also share a 'Submarine' underwater housing so I can take my Fisheye wherever I go.

My little brother was quite excited about this special camera, too when I showed it to him and together we checked out lomography.com for the first time, ogling at all those strangely amazing cameras. My new addiction was born, although more than two years passed before I got my next lomographic camera, a Diana Mini.

Lomography Fisheye No.2: Seven Years of Wonder

Exactly seven years ago, I bought this camera from Indonesia's local Lomography community. I remember having some savings in my bank account and just spending it all on this camera. At that time, I browsed the microsite for the Lomography Fisheye No.2 and immediately fell in love with it! Coincidentally, my friend who introduced me to Lomography just bought this same camera for his birthday. My life has changed ever since I had the Fisheye, my first lomographic camera.

    Bite-Size Fiction: Spectre

Ever since she started working late hours Tammy had inevitably acquired the habit of staying up into the wee hours of the night, doing nothing but catch up on her favorite websites, eat, and watch television. When nothing good’s on TV or in the Internet, however, she liked to hang out at her room’s balcony, sneakily smoking a cigarette or two while musing about all sorts of things.
