"Deutsches Museum": The Science & Technology Museum of Munich

8

If you come to visit Munich and if you have an open and curious mind about science & technology, you must absolutely plan a visit to the "Deutsches Museum", one of the greatest museum of this kind in Germany

This museum opened 1903 with the ambition to offer the widest exhibition of all what science and technology can bring to humanity. The building was small at the opening but Oskar von Miller who founded the museum wanted something bigger and ordered a lot of new plans to have a building corresponding to the ambition of this place. The definitive building was finished only 1925, but it’s an impressing architectural achievement (even if it was destroyed to 80% after world war 2 and re-constructed in the same way): a giant building on 5 floors over 100000 objects showing a huge part of what human science and technology can offer, about ships, bridges, planes, the art of Medicine, optics, electricity, physics, music instruments, ecology…… I can’t give the whole list because it seems that there is no limit.

You can plan a whole day visiting all the exhibitions and even then you feel that you must come back to see all what you couldn’t visit! I went there 3 times already and I still haven’t made the whole tour of it, and there’s every time something new to see in the special exhibitions. It’s really a paradise for curious minds about so many topics, that you will surely find what your looking for and discover things you never imagined before!

My personal favorites are the section about aeronautics, optics, and a brand new “photographic” section: and yes, LOMO is in the Museum, with a special place for the LCA (only 25 years old and already in the museum history!!! :)), Fisheye, Horizon, Actionsampler, and a lot of other milestones of camera history!
Have a look at the pics if you aren’t convinced, but it’s a “must seen”!!

Museumsinsel 1, 80538 München, Tel.: (089)21791, all S-Bahn lines, stopping at “Isartor”, or metro U1/U2 stop at “Fraunhofer Str”, entry 8,5 €

Nice article. This is where my Lomo love affair began. I bought a Diana Mini, my very first Lomography camera, in the museum store. That visit to the museum changed my life in a small way.
    It's also a wonderful museum!

Transient Living: Armitage & McMillan in Denver, Colorado

If you want to know the heart of a person, peek inside his/her wardrobe! And no, nobody famous said that; I only just made it up. But really, don't you think it's true? After all, the way we dress screams our personality; at least for most of us. And that is why, as soon as I land on a new city, one of the things I absolutely must do is find the local boutiques. Sure, I love the fancy chain boutiques as much as the next person, but there's just something else about a local clothing store. It's unique!

    Experiencing the Rainforest Adventure Experience

When I was a kid, one of my greatest joys was to go to the park. I especially loved playgrounds. It didn't matter how may other children there were, as long as I could have my turn to go on the slide and and sit on the swing. These days, enjoying one's childhood has become so different. Technology has stolen the interest of children in more physically demanding yet fun activities.
