Love at First Lomo: My SuperSampler

3

The SuperSampler was not only my first Lomography camera. It was a big discovery, a new love for the oldest yet newest world for analogue photography. Read about my Love at First Lomo story after the jump.

I was recording a video in 2008 when the director started to shoot with his SuperSampler. I didn’t understand at this moment the magic of this “kind of toy” (like I thought). Then, I saw the amazing result. Not only were there bright colors and the vignette effect, the 4-lensed sequence was perfect. It preserved perfectly the feeling of the moment.

After few weeks, I got my first Lomography camera, my SuperSampler. It was amazing and it started to be my jewel, ever present for outdoors pictures. Every time, you could find a new fantastic sequence. People, animals, cars, buildings and the sky; everything helps you to compose a nice sequence for your pictures.

I love the sound when you press the shutter, and sensation when you pull the string. This camera generates a really particular and unique feeling.

But It was only the beginning of my relationship with lomography and analogue world. Afterwards, I started to try different Lomography cameras (Fisheye, ActionSampler, Oktomat, Spinner 360, Diana F+ and LC-A+) and I found the magic of each camera in different times and places and I can say that every camera has something special.

The most important is the experience of experimentation of each camera and try different films in different situation. You could register, preserved or create an emotion in one image, you only need to find the right camera for you to fall in love around this magic analogue world.

Testing a Yashica TLR Camera After 55 Years in Storage

Though I am not a professional, photography is in my genes. My father was a photographer and technician in the Air Force and accumulated a number of cameras during his life. This is a story about one of those cameras, a Yashica 635 TLR. I brought the camera—after being in storage for about 55 years—back to life with a roll of Portra 160 during the golden hour at Bellevue Botanical Gardens in Washington.
