Love at First Lomo: My One and Only Diana F+

3

It's charming, unpredictable, awesome – and legendary too! It's blue but happy, square but flexible, and a respectable lady. It's my one and only Diana F+! This lomo camera was the first to rock my Lomographic world and the key to the most charming kind of photos I've ever had the pleasure to create. It's another world, and one of the best in my LOMO world!

The year was 2008 or 2009 when my girlfriend introduced me to Lomography. I remember that she told me about it in the subway but I don´t remember why. All I know is that we got excited with the idea of obtaining a LOMO camera. My girlfriend´s birthday was right by the corner and a decided to buy her a LOMO: a fun fun fun Colorsplash Chakra (which, by the way, was stolen meanwhile). Well, it was her B-day present! It was the first LOMO camera in my hand.

Then, she bought herself an ActionSampler and in Christmas I bought her a SuperSampler. Today, I feel stupid because until that Christmas, I didn’t have in my hands that one LOMO camera that made me say, “This is mine, my property…Get your hands off this.” Of course, I had been busyy with all my girlfriend’s cameras but the little LOMO bug wasn´t inside me for sure. That changed after I bought Diana F+: the princess!

It quickly became my addiction. Although I wasn’t always taking photos, I was always anxious to click the button. My first results were pretty normal and awesome. Normal because I failed in some 4 or 5 photos (with 12 shots, that’s a lot as you know) and awesome because those first images, those first Lomographs, were the same as signing a contract and telling me, “congratulations, we are now Lomo Rookie Addicted." It was marvelous how the random composition of images, the doubles and the vignettes, were all combined in pretty images full of charm, some of them like a painting, a drawing. That square format can hield some rich messages.

I believe that I will never take some photos such as beautiful and random as those. I don’t know why I say this, maybe because they are part of my really first moments of Lomo Love. And all that with a plastic lady camera. It was just unique!

Since then, I’m always spreading the name LOMOGRAPHY into everybody’s ears. I have to share this love of mine and nothing better to help than this Diana F+ of mine!

Thank you for rocking my world!

The World According to Herr Willie: Olympiastadion Berlin

The 2015 UEFA Champions League Final will be held at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin on June 6. It is a place full of history and is also the only football stadium with a blue track course. Some say it is the most beautiful stadium in the world, and I totally agree with them. But then agai,n I might be biased because it is the home court of my favorite team, Hertha BSC Berlin—my blue-white bloodline.

In the hands of those capable wielding it, art can be a powerful weapon. With it, for one, creation of fantastical realms far removed from the one we live in is entirely possible. Through collage making, Eugenia Loli builds such worlds that invite the audience not only to marvel at them but also, and most importantly, to see through the hodgepodge of images to find meaning and formulate interpretations.
