Welcome to Seoul! Noelia ㅡ Winner of the Seoul Around You Competition

The winner of Seoul competition and heavy lomographer from Spain, Noelia Dominguez, She has visited Seoul for the first time. Check out her journal of Seoul City with La sardina and Lomokino!

Name:Noelia Dominguez

What do you do in Spain?
I work as a civil engineer

Is it the first time to visit to Seoul?
Yes, but I would like to visit Korea again. Perhaps in a warmer season, it´s very cold here nowadays!

How do you like Korea so far?
I am enjoying this travel a lot. I love people, historic palaces and temples and modern buildings we are discovering every day.

Where is your favorite place to take photos?
The whole Gyeonbokgung Palace. We spent almost four hours taking photos and walking around.

Kyungbok Palace

How do you see Seoul as an analogue view?
It´s a very colorful city, even in winter gray days.

Lomokino by Noelia

When did you start taking film photo?
I had my first camera when I was 14. It was an analogue camera, of course. And I was taking film photos until 2006, when I was given my first digital camera. I returned to analogue photos when I discovered lomography two years ago.

What is your first lomography camera? What kind of lomography camera do you have?
My first one was a fisheye camera, because I was told that it is the easiest to take good photos, you only have to get close to your victim and shot. Nowadays I have several lomography cameras: actionsampler, Diana, Colorsplash, Sprocket Rocket and LC-Wide.

How did you feel when you won this competition?
I was contacted by Seoul Tourism Organization just on the Three Kings Day, that is the day when children are given a lot of presents at Christmas in Spain. The Three Kings are supposed to come from the Orient so… I really believed that they visited me :P

What camera did you see for competition?
Fisheye2. It is perfect for hunting urban typographies.

Where the idea came up?
I am an urban typography hunter since I went to a workshop called “Typographic Safari”. I love scour streets looking for letters to shoot them, I hope to finish the whole alphabet.

Why do you love analogue photography?
I love the emotion you feel when you get your developed film from the lab. I always try to see the results as I walking at the street looking the sky through the film.

What kind of camera are you going to use in Korea?
I brought my new LC-Wide, the Sprocket Rocket and the Diana, but most of photos are going to be shot with La Sardina that Lomography lends me during the stay. They also lend me a Lomokino to try it!
Besides people from Seoul Tourism Organization lend us an Iphone to take photos and use maps and information about sights. Thank all of you!

Lomokino by Noelia

Which one is your best camera?
I think that LC-Wide is the best but I only have shot one roll of film so I cannot compare the results with others. However I love the Colorsplash camera.

Any your own tips for photography?
If you don´t remember if you passed the film to the next photo or not, you should shoot again because double exposure is better than nothing.

What is your plan for future?
I would like to travel across the USA by the mythical route 66 on a motorbike.

Anything If you want to say to Lomographer in Korea?
Thanks a lot to everyone that have made this travel possible. We would like to visit historic palaces, temples, markets, Lotte World, Seoul Tower, night pubs… I am sure you can see every place we visit in our lomography homes (mine and my friend kelmort) soon as possible.

The World According to Herr Willie: The Spirit of Jogja

It is the marvel of Java, the cultural center of Indonesia: Yogyakarta, or, as we assimilated locals call it, Jogja! Jogja is full of historic sites and exudes a very adventurous yet welcoming spirit. It is a true multireligious melting pot that has seen kings and sultans come and go, and religions introduced and either went or stayed. Time has been gentle on Jogja. It's one of my most favorite cities in Asia.
