My Analogue Bucket List for 2012: A List of Must-Do's

My bucket list for 2012, the year I will change for the better. No longer letting home comforts stand in my way and searching for creative freedom.

2012 is my new beginning. Everything will change for the better this year, physically, emotionally, spiritually and of course creatively. This will be the year I stop holding back, the year I walk up to that interesting stranger in the street and ask if I can take a photo of them and their amazing Pug dog (If you knew me, you would know I’m obsessed with Pugs). Here is my list of Must-Do’s for 2012.

1. Live, laugh, love and document everything!

Documenting everything and anything, from friends and family to that piece of colourful trash in the street. The ups and the downs. The sun and the rain. Leaving no rock unturned.

2. Learn to use the LC-A, Smena 8m and Fed 5.

Perhaps one at a time?

3. More is the new less.

Process more and more film every month. Maybe this will be the year I learn to process my own films.

4. One photo – one stone.

Yes, it’s a new year and it’s going to be a new me. I’m talking weight loss. I will document every stone lost with a photo, this will not only be encouraging in my journey but will also allow me to get creative with each shot.

5. Car boots and thrift stores.

Simple. I must make an effort to go to car boot sales this summer and continue my search for vintage cameras. After all, a collector can never have too many right?

6. Enjoy the outdoors.

This, I may struggle with. I thrive on being tucked away safely by the fire with the kitties on my lap. But this year, that has to change. This time next year I will be eager and desperate to go on adventures in to the unknown. I will jump at the chance to go to that abandoned castle I’ve always dreamed of seeing. The woods will be no object in my search for the perfect photo.

You are more than welcome to join me on my creative journey. What an exciting year this will be.

Let’s make 2012 a year full of creativity and analogue love! If you liked this article, go ahead and check the rest of analogue bucket lists for 2012 submitted by the community! Of course, you can also submit your own inspiring analogue bucket list for 2012 and get more piggies!

12 Months, 12 Projects: July - Freelensing Fun

My 2015 resolution is to do 12 photography projects, one for every month. In July, I tried freelensing or unscrewing the lens from my SLR and holding it in front of the camera body. By tilting the lens slightly I was able to change the focus. For this experiment, I used my Konstruktor and Olympus OM-1.

    Giles Clement: The Wayfaring Tintyper

Reminiscent of traveling photographers of the 19th century, Giles Clement tours through the country with his assistant, Zeiss (an Irish Terrier), offering everything from portrait sessions to wildly creative photographic projects for magazines and companies. And although his mode of transportation may have evolved with the times, his photographic method and gear have changed very little compared to the photographers of days past. Now, with over 3 years of tintyping experience under his belt and an impressive list of clients, he's carved a name out for himself as an accomplished tintyper and continues to spread his passion for this ages-old technique everywhere he goes.

    Experiment: Chlorine!

What's so great about analog photography? You never know what you will get in the end. Not every film let all of my photos look perfect, some fail, too. Maybe some of you experienced the same. After trying out several film soups and chemicals I finally discovered the easiest and quickest way: chlorine!

The World According to Herr Willie: The Amazon

It was the Amazon which I had longed for my whole life. And when it was finally a set deal that I will travel to Brazil with two of my best friends for the Copa do Mundo (World Cup), we really had to start our adventure in the Amazon. I had known about this magical place deep in the rainforest. There was a lodge run by local people of indigenous background, with wooden houses that float on the water and a limited number of visitors. It was eco-tourism as how it should be. To preserve and to celebrate one of the most impressive locations I have seen so far.

A Salute to the Masters: Swing Festival in Como (A Tribute to Alexey Brodovitch)

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the publication of one of the most influential photography books ever, "Ballet" by the photographer, art director, and graphic designer Alexey Brodovitch. Brodovitch took a series of photos of classical dance in a very unconventional way, using very slow exposure times, trying to catch the true essence of Russian ballets. For this article, I took a series of photos at the Swing Crash Festival in my city, Como, held in June 2015.
