Doubles with You - Takuji & Strangelilgirl

12

My boyfriend and I plan on going to Japan in the next year or so, and we thought it would be fun to do doubles with someone who lives there as a way to mix both locations together and get even more excited about going. We were fans of Takuji's work and luckily he was just as excited about the idea as we were.

We shot a roll of Klick film, 200 ISO, through our Fisheye 2 as well as a roll of Fuji Provia 400 through our LC-A+. Takuji shot over them with his Horizon (over the Fisheye) and his Lomo LC-A+. His photos showed up mostly on the Klick film, and ours did mostly on the Provia, however there were still some exciting shots in those batches.

The really exciting stuff was the film he sent us: Lomo color negative, 100 ISO, and Fujichrome T64, ran through his Lomo LC-A and LC-A+. We shot over the color negative with our Vivitar ultra wide & slim, not thinking about the fact that our photos would be upside down to his. But I think it was a good thing we didn’t realize and decide not to, because we really love the way his skies blended with our grounds, and vice versa. We had a couple of kismet shots, too. One photo he took of a boat out on water, and we took a photo looking over a bridge onto water…the two waters blend together! Also, on his picture of the “Foreign Correspondents of Japan” sign, we have an “Oregon Visitors Information” sign on top of it!

The other roll he sent us we shot over with our Lomo LC-A+ and then cross processed it. This batch turned out extremely well and I thought it expressed beautiful contrast between our 2 locations. Some of our shots are macro flowers, and they blend with his big city buildings to create a cool feeling. I especially like the photo he took of 2 people walking down a street, where our trees blend into the street and lead up to the people; I thought it was a very touching scene.

We are really pleased with the results this collaboration gave us, not only the pictures and the excitement of someday going to Japan, but the lifelong friendship that we’ll now have with Takuji. I’m sure we’ll be doing doubles again soon, and we can’t wait till the day that we’re shooting film in Tokyo with him!

Summer Hot Spots: Blaavand, Denmark (Part Two)

When I was a child, I regularly went to Blaavand, located at the Danish west coast, with my brothers and parents. I stopped going there as I grew up. In 2012 however, we hit the road again. It was my first return visit in about 20 years. I took the chance and packed as many cameras as possible into my luggage. In part two of my journey log, I'm going to show you the pictures I took with my Lomography cameras.

    Chemical Manipulations with the Lomo’Instant

Perhaps you’ve already had chance to try light painting, multiple exposures and long exposures with your Lomo’Instant, but what can you experiment with next? Well, that’s exactly the thought I had which led to giving this Tipster a go. I wanted to shoot Lomo’Instant photos which felt a bit “messier” than what I’m usually used to and to use a technique which would open up new possibilities with the kinds of images I could create with my favorite instant camera. Well, here I go!

Fresh from the Lab: One Roll of Film and the Lubitel 166U

Adi, Ekeu, and I did a lomowalk around downtown Bandung last Saturday, the beginning of November. We planned to use our Lubitel cameras with only one roll of film each. We were inspired by the One Roll of Film Project by four Tokyo-based photographers with their Hasselblad cameras. This is about the one roll of film I shot with the Lubitel 166U, which made me love shooting in medium format even more.

For the last year we've been working on the next version of Lomography. We based our work on the feedback you’ve given us over the years and we wanted to share it as early as possible with you and can’t wait to hear what you think. Just one warning first: it is still in development and things can break. All the photos, comments, likes, homes and everything else were transferred as of October 16th, 2014. So anything you do on next.lomography.com won't be reflected on www.lomography.com and vice versa. Once we are done with testing, everything you did here will be deleted again. So this is a big playground for you to explore.

Photographer Gilbert Blecken Captures Iconic Musicians on Film

Back in the 1990s, Gilbert Blecken was a big music fan and wrote for his own small music fanzine. He would interview bands in between sound checks and take photographs of them. He was never a professional photographer or worked for a company; he simply did it for his fanzine. Twenty years on, Gilbert’s photographs have matured into an amazing documentation of some of the biggest music icons of that era. We caught up with Gilbert to ask him about these photographs and the fascinating story behind them.
