The New Harbour of Monaco

11

The new harbour & pier of Monaco is a fantastic place to have a great view on the whole city and admire a lot of beautiful boats & cars....

In the year 2002, the prince of Monaco decided of a huge construction program of a new harbour in Monaco. The purpose was that the big oversea boats and touristic cruisers can arrive directly in Monaco, because until then, only Nice had the space for such huge liners. But the problem with Monaco is the lack of space…. So it was decided to built this brand new “Port Hercule” on the sea, as a prolongation of the actual harbour. An impressive artificial pier of 145 m was built in the docks of Algesiras (Spain) and then transported by sea to Monaco, where it was attached to the former harbour. And the new project could really begin…

Now, it’s almost finished and this huge pier is a perfect place to have a walk and enjoy the view over the whole city. Families go have a walk with their kids, fishers hang out their lines, lomographers take pictures…… it’s such an exciting place to visit and to have a sight you never had before… i went there with my Horizon & Diana+ & LCA+ to discover the place and I know that I’ll go back there, so much things to take pictures of…

To go there, it’s very easy: Highway A8 (from Nice or Italy), exit “Monaco”, follow the way down until the coast and in the city follow the signs “Le port” or “Port Hercule” You can parc your car in an impressive huge and modern parking constructed and the pier…

What makes travel a great experience is the newness of things. The environment, people and culture tend to be different from customs back home. Coming from the Philippines, I found a lot of novel things in the United Kingdom, especially in the city of London.
