ActionSampler Flash Love

Here's a review of the Actionsampler Flash with photos taken during Christmas. Read about my experience with this camera after the jump!

Having been given a free ActionSampler through a website giveaway 10 years ago. I have been in love with analogue. Unfortunately my poor freebie died and ever since its burial (in my garden marked “First Love”) I have hankered after a replacement.

But what to buy? As I have recently moved to the “grim” north (Yorkshire) I felt the need for a flash. One trip online later and boom! A fantastic four-framed, flash, family-sized feast!

I used some 200 ISO Kodak film and I am blown away by the results! Grainy? Yes! High res? No! Amazing 1980’s colours? Yes!

Overall, I am very impressed with this little wonder. None of the black borders like my previous ActionSampler, all photo, and therefore all colour!

My favourite shot from the roll came in the form of the turkey. Not only was it the first time I had cooked Christmas dinner (tasted fab-u-las), it also looked just like the photos of the turkeys from Christmasses past, back when I was a lad in Scotland (it was deep fried back then, of course).

All in all this little camera kicks bottom, it is a must have in any Lomographers’ collection. I can’t wait to take it out on the town, to gigs, the shop, sunny beaches, the swings, out on the bike….everywhere I go! I suggest you get yourself one and give it a go. Four-frame madness may not give a long-lasting trustworthiness as your LC-A but it damn sure livens up some Christmas snaps!

The Actionsampler Flash snaps up a series of four images on one 35mm print, and now comes with a 4-step sequential flash! This multilens camera can record your subject’s movement day and night. See it with the rest of our Multilens cameras here!

    My Lomo’Instant Quick Tips

I backed the Kickstarter project for the Lomo’Instant earlier this year and was thrilled to receive it last week. I love how the camera naturally encourages you to experiment with its different features, whether it’s through flashing your multiple exposures with different colors or trying different creative techniques after your shots has been ejected. Here are a few tips from what I’ve discovered from playing with the camera so far (and a couple of tips I want to try out in future)!

Fresh from the LomoLab: My Summer at a Campsite

I prefer being outdoors whenever I go on a vacation at the seaside. For this reason, I always choose to stay at a campsite instead of a hotel. This year, I stayed at a beautiful one in the south of Italy. Here is a series of photos which I received a few days ago from the excellent LomoLab service, taken with my Sprocket Rocket. Testing a Yashica TLR Camera After 55 Years in Storage

Though I am not a professional, photography is in my genes. My father was a photographer and technician in the Air Force and accumulated a number of cameras during his life. This is a story about one of those cameras, a Yashica 635 TLR. I brought the camera—after being in storage for about 55 years—back to life with a roll of Portra 160 during the golden hour at Bellevue Botanical Gardens in Washington.
