1. I will learn how to use my gear.

Lomography encourages us to don’t think and just shoot. But of course, learning how to use your gear will let you take well-composed and properly exposed shots in any lighting situation. If you’re a newbie to film photography, reading your cameras’ manuals from cover to cover may be tiresome but knowing what each button and mechanism is for will definitely improve your shots’ quality.

2. I will practice my technical skills.

After taking time to know your film cameras by heart, it is essential to practise using them. Find time to know and understand technical terms, such as aperture, f-stops, ISO, and all the other settings. You need not search any further because here on Lomography.com, we have our very own Photo Glossary.

3. I will take more photographs.

Another golden rule by Lomography is to bring your camera wherever you go and shoot day/night. Take time to take photographs of portraits, landscapes, food … everything! Try the different film camera formats, make use of the assorted film types, and familiarize yourself with various accessories. Don’t limit yourself and get ahead and try taking photographs of new things, places, and people.

4. I will experiment more.

The wonderful world of Lomography offers you countless experiments, modifications, techniques, and tips. Express your creativity and imagination by thinking of and doing your own photographic series, a project, perhaps. Learn how to process and scan your own films. Build your own LomoWalls. Use your own photos as postcards. Do more! It also helps to widen one’s knowledge on the different styles popularized by master photographers and be guided by their words of wisdom. After all, we all should learn from the best of the best.

5. I will learn to critique my own photographs.

Film photography, like other branches of photography, is a form of art and the judgment of art is relative. Some photographers prefer vibrancy and vividness of colours, while the others like minimalism. Almost anyone can tell you whether the photograph you’ve taken is composed and exposed in the right way but is it inspiring? Did it capture a meaningful moment? Was it able to define what you want to convey? Know your style and don’t let anyone shake your vision.

In the process of doing these resolutions, spare time to share your analogue adventures to people who share the same interest as yours. Go to events and exhibitions and tell something about them in the News section. Write your pictures’ stories and impart them in the Analogue Lifestyle section. Take pride in your shots and participate in our Competitions. Think of brand new techniques and contribute ideas to the Tipster section. Most of all, continue spreading analogue love to everyone!

I never make resolutions. If I find I have to lose weight, I start on it when I realize the fact. ;) But this year I hope to work with video a bit more than I have. I'd like to get a nice square format camera. I hope to start developing black and white at home again.

So here’s what we’ve been working on: an all new lomography.com

For the last year we've been working on the next version of Lomography. We based our work on the feedback you’ve given us over the years and we wanted to share it as early as possible with you and can’t wait to hear what you think. Just one warning first: it is still in development and things can break. All the photos, comments, likes, homes and everything else were transferred as of October 16th, 2014. So anything you do on next.lomography.com won't be reflected on www.lomography.com and vice versa. Once we are done with testing, everything you did here will be deleted again. So this is a big playground for you to explore.
